The instrument is only as accurate as the probes are clean!
pH measuring equipment must be cleaned and calibrated regularly to ensure they are giving the user accurate readings. pH instruments are calibrated to pH7.0 first (buffer) then to pH4.0 (slope).
Contamination between solutions can easily occur, which will affect the validity of the calibration. Bluelab recommend that the solutions are decanted into a smaller vessel and the contents discarded when the calibration process has been completed.
TIP: Pour a little of the pH4.0 or KCl solution into wetting cap of the pH probe instead of water. pH probes must be kept moist when not in use. "If it drys it dies!"
The pH4.0 solution is available in 20ml single use sachets, 250ml or 500ml bottles.
